Boxing Taster Session a Huge Hit!

On Sunday 9th March NAS Stafford ran two non-contact boxing taster sessions for young people aged 9-12 and 13-16 (with flexibility around the age ranges.)

We were delighted to have George Marshall as our coach who certainly put the young people through their paces! They loved it too! George brought lots of energy, humour and understanding to the event, and the young people could sit and watch or take part when they were comfortable doing so.

There was learning about footwork and stance, practise with pad and the punchbag, and with George himself. The young people practised with each other but also had a chance to get individual coaching from George.

Meanwhile parents and carers enjoyed the free tea and biscuits. There was time for a couple of breaks to rehydrate - we picked the warmest day of the year so far to run this event - and then it was back for more skills!

Boxing is about precision, balance, exercise and discipline. Our session was also about having fun with other young people and socialising. George made it very clear that this is not about ‘hitting each other’. What it is, is a really good outlet for both energy and big feelings, and in the right environment it can be hugely beneficial to those taking part.

At the end of both sessions there was a lot of enthusiasm for more, and we hope to run this as a monthly club in the future.
